Tour begins at 5:30 PM
Meeting Location: Parking lot south of ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11
ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11 ∞, Edmonton’s first dedicated Indigenous Art Park, was created to not only exhibit artworks and celebrate Indigenous artists and cultures, but to serve as a place for gathering, education, and arts programming. Developed in partnership with the City of Edmonton, the Edmonton Arts Council, and Indigenous artists, community members and Elders, this multi-year cooperative process built trust, opened opportunities and explored ways of thinking about place as it relates to Indigenous cultures.
Attendees will learn about the process undertaken to create the art park, how it integrated and strengthened the complex relationships between and with our Indigenous partners, and will illustrate lessons learned that could be applied to related endeavours. There will be an opportunity to discuss whether and/or how the art park fosters local meaning and connection.
