Keynote Announcements

Don Iveson served as Edmonton’s 35th Mayor from 2013 to 2021 with a guiding leadership principle to make things better for the next generation. This long-term view is now embedded in: Edmonton’s smart-growth City Plan; City Council’s Energy Transition Strategy; and Edmonton’s nation-leading work on stormwater management and climate adaptation. 

Since retiring from City Hall, Don continues to live in Edmonton. He works part-time with Co-Operators as Executive Advisor for Climate Investment and Community Resilience. He is also ramping up Civic Good, a public policy advisory practice working on climate resilience, housing innovation, and civic innovation projects with like-minded clients ranging from startups to governments. He is a member of the Expert Panel on Adaptation at the Canadian Climate Institute, serves as Co-Chair of the Task Force on Housing and Climate, and volunteers as Board Co-Chair of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness.

 

James Jones is Nehiyaw (Cree) from Tall Cree First Nation in Treaty 8 Territory in Northern Alberta. Known as Notorious Cree across Instagram and TikTok, James has an engaging community of over 6M+ people globally. James uses his voice to educate and spread awareness on the issues impacting Indigenous communities across the globe. As a traditional hoop and powwow dancer, performance artist, youth workshop facilitator and public speaker, James advocates to inspire future generations by reclaiming his culture and encouraging others to do the same.

 

Jennifer David Avatar

A member of Chapleau Cree First Nation, Jennifer David is of mixed ancestry and was born and raised in Omushkego/Treaty 9 territory (Northeastern Ontario). As a partner, senior consultant, and minority shareholder of NVision Insight Group, a majority Indigenous-owned consulting company, she oversees cultural awareness and competency programming under the banner of The Path. As a skilled and experienced communicator, researcher, published writer and facilitator, Jennifer brings energy, creativity, and professionalism to every project, driven by her commitment to the promotion of Indigenous communities and cultures, and to amplifying First Nations, Inuit and Métis voices.

 

Tim Tamashiro
