Volunteer Opportunities with APPI - You can make a Difference!
Volunteering provides members with a unique opportunity to contribute to the Institute and the profession, while broadening their professional networks and acquiring new skills. Volunteering with APPI is eligible to be logged or the purposes of the reporting of mandatory Continuous Professional Learning (CPL), as it enhances professional competency. APPI has the following new volunteer opportunities available.
APPI Volunteers to Serve on NAIT’s Focus Group Exploring Supporting Planners in the APPI Jurisdiction
APPI is seeking regulated members (Candidate and RPPs) to serve on a focus group led by NAIT for the purpose of exploring the production and technology needs of the planning industry, and how stronger connections might be built within the planning sector. The focus group will meet virtually, therefore volunteers are not required to be geographically located in Edmonton and area. The estimated time commitment is two hours, subject to a potential future expansion of the role of the focus group. Please submit your expression of interest paragraph of 200 words or less, to [email protected] by March 22, 2026, and include your name and preferred email address for this volunteer opportunity.
The goals of this preliminary focus group discussion are to:
- Introduce the NAIT Landscape Architectural Technology (LAT) program to practicing members of APPI.
- Identify potential connections between landscape architectural technology and the planning profession, including a discussion of the roles the LAT grads have been historically filling in the planning profession to date.
- Engage planners to understand what gaps may exist in technical support in the planning industry.
- Review the existing LAT curriculum against focus group needs/ wants to see what skills are currently aligned to planning and what might be aligned in the future.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – PSB PLAR Assessors
Are you looking for a way to give back to the planning profession?
The Professional Standards Board for the Planning Profession in Canada is looking to recruit new Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) volunteers to help evaluate PLAR applications for their eligibility to enter the PSB’s certification process.
PLAR assessors must be a full (certified) member of a Provincial /Territorial Institute or Association (PTIA) and an RPP or LPP in good standing for at least 7 years. A PSB PLAR orientation is available for reference. PLAR assessors receive an honorarium for their time.
