2027 APPI Member Renewals and Professional Liability Insurance
APPI member renewal notices are emailed in November 2026. The 2027 APPI and CIP member renewal process is through the CIP/APPI portal and must be completed by December 31, 2026. Regulated members are encouraged to do so immediately upon receipt of the renewal email, to ensure there are no significant gaps in your Professional Liability Insurance coverage. Failure to remit your 2027 member fees will result in a cessation of your APPI/CIP membership and suspension of registration. The Professional Planner Regulation does not provide for the re-instatement of former or lapsed members of APPI.

2027 Member Fees
Dear APPI Members,
As we look ahead to 2027, the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) is pleased to share an update on member fees for the coming year.
APPI member fees will remain unchanged in 2027, and there will be no increase to the professional liability insurance premium.
This decision reflects APPI’s strong financial position, supported by accumulated surpluses in recent years, and Council’s commitment to maintaining stable member costs while continuing to support our members and the planning profession across Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
In recognition of ongoing inflationary pressures, Council has approved a one-year reprieve from APPI’s policy of increasing member fees annually by at least the rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This reprieve applies to 2027 only. APPI’s existing policy of annual member fee increases based on the CPI will remain in effect beyond 2027.
At the national level, the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) will increase its member fees by 4% in 2027, for all member categories except for non-practicing members whose fees will not increase. This adjustment reflects rising operating costs and the organization’s strategic priorities as it continues to support the planning profession and advance initiatives at the national level.
We recognize and appreciate your continued membership and commitment to the planning profession. Thank you for the important work you do in communities across Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and for being a valued part of the APPI community.

APPI members are reminded that membership with CIP is not mandatory for APPI members. If you do not wish to hold membership with CIP for 2027, you will be able to opt out of CIP membership during the 2027 member renewal process.
